Spirit-first Living

We are not living in the same times. I sometimes wonder what is ahead of us as we are forced to change our ways on every level: economically, environmentally, socially, and consciously. My sense is that this mass consumerism and materialistic lifestyle must end. It is unsustainable and unhealthy. My anticipation is that the green movement is a precursor for a new spiritual era where we begin to live with more consciousness, respect, and harmony with one another and with nature. How come ancient civilizations like the Incas, Mayans, aborigines of worldly continents seem to get it, but as technologically advanced as we are today in 2 st century, we still suffer more than previous times. We seem to deal with more moral degradation, mental instability, modern stresses and diseases, economic decline and global warming. Humans did not take the proper responsibility to take care of this earth as it is our inheritance and spiritual right to take care of our environment. The earth can progress without humankind; it is humankind that cannot live without the earth.  I'd like to envision a new spiritual era coming 2013 that will spur a global awakening. It is truly up to the people more than it is up to the government. I hope that as each of us grow and improve ourselves so that we can then improve the world around us and be more harmonious and loving towards one another.
